OEC is the largest heavy infrastructure company in Brazil, according to the ranking 2021 of the magazine O Empreiteiro, the most traditional publication of the segment edited in the national territory. This year, the Brazilian Engineering Ranking has completed 50 years of existence, annually compiling audited data from the largest companies in the construction industry.

The main data taken into account for the classification is the Gross Operational Revenue. OEC has presented revenues of BRL 3.76 billion, ahead of Andrade Gutierrez, which presented BRL 1.79 billion; Método Potencial Engenharia, with BRL 1.22 billion; Construtora Queiroz Galvão, with BRL 1.20 billion; and Camargo Correa Infra Construções, with BRL 1.16 billion, rounding out the top five positions in the segment.

The Brazilian Engineering Ranking is taken as a basic reference of the market for the next 12 months, both among the players themselves, which are the engineering companies, and by public and private contractors, including infrastructure concessionaires. According to the magazine, even with the adversities of the pandemic and after 4 years of decline, the Brazilian engineering market in general had a growth of 27.9% in 2020, and about BRL 139 billion in investments have been announced for the biennium 2020/2021, of which more than BRL 80 billion specifically for infrastructure. "A positive movement that reflects the consistent flow of private capital in the works of the transportation, energy and sanitation utilities, as well as industrial construction ventures in the oil segments, cellulose, agribusiness, mining", the magazine points out.

The issue features an editorial written by OEC Brasil’s director, Raul Ribeiro, in which he points out the readiness of the infrastructure sector to be the locomotive for the resumption of sustainable growth in the Brazilian economy, in view of the need for investment in the sector and its characteristics of formalization, guaranteeing access to employment and income for a large number of people. "The arrival and spread of the vaccine, coupled with the positivity of almost all macroeconomic indicators point to a way out of the crisis, except for one: unemployment. And it is especially here that the opportunities existing in the infrastructure market can and shall help the country take a qualitative leap towards sustainable growth," Ribeiro states in the text.

Besides the construction companies, O Empreiteiro's ranking also brings data regarding industrial assembly companies, designers, and service providers in the segment. The historical series uses the consolidated revenues of the largest companies in these four sectors as a representative sample of the companies participating in the survey. The Brazilian Engineering Ranking 2021 includes data from 449 participating companies, of which 174 are heavy construction companies, 57 are real estate construction companies, 29 are industrial assembly firms, 79 are designers and managers, and 111 are special engineering service companies.
